Function:
When the pump stops the sinking ball moves down to shut off the
passage into the valve body & prevents the column of water in
the section of pipe above the ball returning to the source. When
the electric pump is restarted the liquid pushes the ball upwards
and due to the shape of the valve body, it is guided to one side,
completely freeing the passage. At each restart the section of pipe
above the valve is already full, preventing waterhammering.
Advantages:
These are preferred over Spring Type Check Valves. Sewage generally
tends to get stuck on the springs & thereby, increasing the
load on the pumps. This can also create a situation in twin pump
systems where the pump keeps returning a certain amount of sewage
to the sump due to non closing of Spring Type Check Valves.
